Welcome to the Godalming and District Primary Schools Sports Association Website.
Fourteen schools from the towns of Godalming and Haslemere and their surrounding villages have joined together to provide a variety of sporting opportunities for children in the area.
At present competitions are organised in football, netball, athletics and cross country. 02/07/09 Congratulations to Godalming Junior who won today's Medium Sized Schools District Sports at Charterhouse. Godalming also won the Boys trophy and Shottermill (who finished second overall) won the Girls Trophy. Thanks to all adults and children who helped and took part.

Dear all,
Hurdles
I am trying to find 24 individual 50cm high hurdles
to use at the three District Sports events. They can be either the foldaway type
(made by Eveque) or the criss cross type (as featured in the Sainsbury's and
Tesco's catalogues).
Could any schools which have some and are willing
to lend them for these three events please let me know. Alternatively, do any of
our SSCos have any suitable ones at the right height?
Competitors
If anyone wants an example competitor list then I
have put one onto the web site under the section News.
Certificates
Finally, to reward those individual children who
win events I have ordered pads of personalised A5 certificates to be given out
just before announcing the overall winners. This should make the presentation
more fun and reward those children who do well even if their school is not an
overall winner. So each child who wins a race or event will get a certificate to
take home. (I suggest that the name of the child be written on the cert
afterwards by the child's school to avoid embarrassing spelling
mistakes!)
Regards
Peter
02/05/09 Please see the News page for details of events, competitors etc. for this year's District Sports events. Beware, they have changed to accommodate the new structure.

Chandler hosted an exciting girls football tournament today with 9 schools attending. Tillingbourne deservedly won, beating Park Mead in the final. Shottermill and St James' made up the other semi-finalists. A big thank you to Anna Wilks for organising and hosting. Anyone up for a girls league next year?

A short
update note to get a few things off my mind
a) District
Sports - as the winning school from the smaller and middle sized District
Sports Events will be awarded a place in the Large School's Event we need to
regularise the programme. Could those who organised these three events last
year please let me know which events they ran and then we can create a uniform
event list which will allow everything to run smoothly. Consideration will of
course have to be given to what events the venue (Charterhouse) can
accommodate.
b) Kristie
Garrett the PDM has asked me to put to the District a proposal that from next
year all netball and football matches are scheduled for the same day of the
week - after school on a Thursday. Apparently this works well in the Farnham
area and means that other sports events can avoid clashes. This may be
something which heads will need to agree as a whole, so could you pass this
idea to your head teacher to consider.
c) the
season is drawing to a close but there are still a lot of scores missing from
my records. Please let me know if any more matches have been played and email
me the results. This website has league tables but these are not sorted as the
software we use is too fiddly to bother with!
The football cup has ground to a halt. I know that my first round match
(Shottermill v Cuthbert Mayne) won’t be played until the 19th March
so I am to blame as much as anyone else. It therefore looks like it
won’t be completed this season. Perhaps next season we can schedule this for a
September start with the draw being made at the annual meeting and aiming to
get the cup completed before the league kicks in?
e) and finally I have been trying to create a on-line repository of risk
assessments for match venues. There aren't many so could you email me yours,
thanks.
I look forward to all your replies

Boys playing netball. Just to clarify the position regarding boys
playing netball within our District competitions.
Regardless of the size of
school, teams are allowed two boys on court at once - no more. Schools
themselves can choose not to include boys and it has been considered polite in
the past to mention that you are bringing boys but no school should really
refuse to play a league match on that basis. All tournaments allow two boys on
court at the same time. Friendlies, you can do whatever you both agree on.
This
was agreed two or three years ago at the Annual Meeting. Should anyone wish to
revisit this issue it can be discussed at our next meeting in September for
next season. Please let me know if you want it added to the agenda.

The
agreement on the timing of all matches is a minimum of 15 minutes per half.
Anything less than that should be classed as a friendly unless agreed by both
after the match due to poor light or weather.
I
have also put the rules for High 5 netball on the news page
Peter.

Hi
A quick
note to solve a slight issue that has come up. There seems to be some disparity
with the length of some netball matches. Halves seem to be anything from 6
minutes to 15 minutes. Could we have a consensus on the best time? To me
6 minutes seems a bit short and not really worth the effort of travelling.
If I start
with the proposal of 15 minutes being the set length of each half for both
netball and football, ensuring a level playing field when it comes to goal
difference etc. Friendlies of course have no restrictions.
Please let
me know your thoughts and I will post another note out after Xmas to confirm
what we all have decided
